Childhood Trauma Questionnaire – Psychometrische Eigenschaften einer deutschsprachigen Version

Published Online:https://doi.org/10.1026/1616-3443.38.4.223

Childhood Trauma Questionnaire – Psychometric properties of a German version

Abstract. Background: Experiences of childhood abuse and neglect are associated with the subsequent development of psychological disorders. There is a lack of validated inventories in the German language to assess experiences of childhood maltreatment. Objective: To examine the psychometric characteristics of a German version of the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ; Bernstein & Fink 1998). Methods: Data were collected from 363 patients with a psychiatric disorder and from 61 students. Dimensionality, reliability, and validity of the CTQ were evaluated. Results: The five-factor model of the original version was confirmed for the German version. Internal consistency and the retestreliability are acceptable to very high. Only the scale physical neglect showed an inadequate internal consistency. Conclusions: The German version of the CTQ examined in this study may be considered as equivalent to the original version.
