On the Continuous Absorption Coefficient of the Negative Hydrogen Ion
Abstract
In this paper it is shown that the continuous absorption coefficient of the negative hydrogen ion is most reliably determined by a formula for the absorption cross-section which involves the matrix ele- ment of the momentum operator. A new absorption curve for H has been determined which places the maximum at X 8500 A; at this wave length the atomic absorption coefficient has the value 4.37 X 1O-'~ cm2
