Importance of absorption effects on fast positron-argon differential cross sections

Abstract

We have calculated differential cross sections for positron-argon elastic scattering at intermediate energies, using an ab initio optical model potential which takes into account explicitly the static, polarization, and absorption contributions. Our results are compared with recent experimental data and demonstrate that absorption effects have an important influence on the angular distributions.
