Abstract
RNA interference (RNAi) described as post transcriptional gene silencing offers great opportunities for developing RNA insecticide for sustainable pest management. In the past decade, nano-delivery system has been widely applied to deliver double-stranded RNA (dsRNA), which shows great potential in improving the stability and delivery efficiency of dsRNA for efficient RNAi both in vitro and in vivo. Here, we introduce the current limiting factors of successful RNAi in insect pests and the advantages of nano-delivery system, reveal the process and mechanism of nanocarrier-mediated RNAi, summarize the successful applications of nanocarrier-based RNA insecticide, and finally propose the current challenges and future perspective.
