ABSTRACT

Nezara viridula is a worldwide pest of numerous crops and cropping systems. The species also is adept at exploiting a wide range of noncultivated plant species in the absence of preferred food resources and during the overwintering period and this may contribute to its broad distribution. Most of the territory of Uzbekistan is covered with deserts, steppes, and mountains and has a continental climate, which altogether are not suitable for Nezara viridula in terms of temperature and food resources. The earliest record of Nezara viridula within Europe apparently is the description of Cimex smaragdulus by Fabricius from the Macaronesian island of Madeira. Nezara viridula has conspicuous body color polymorphism: more than ten, genetically determined, color morphs of adults are recognized, with the most common being a completely green morph. Nezara viridula is believed to be of southern origin, but occurs throughout tropical, subtropical, and warm temperate regions.
