ISHS Acta Horticulturae 321: Frontier in Tropical Fruit Research

POSTHARVEST HANDLING AND TECHNOLOGY OF TROPICAL FRUIT

Author:   S. Tongdee
DOI:   10.17660/ActaHortic.1992.321.89
Abstract:
The increasing interests and marketing prospects for tropical fruit worldwide has made the science of postharvest technology of tropical fruit a priority research and development area in many developing countries that are suppliers of tropical fruits. There is also an increasing demand for tropical fruit handling information by shippers, importers, and trade organizations. Available handling information are often of limited regional importance reflecting the characteristics of tropical fruit industries: a comparatively small, dispersed, fragmented, and highly seasonal production base mostly in developing countries, a still yet to be established distribution system, and a dynamic and expanding but uncertain and often misleading markets prospects in the developed countries.
