Abstract:
Foliar analysis has come into widespread use in helping to guide soil fertility and management practices in fruit crops. Accordingly, the present study to find out the suitable time and leaves to be sampled for assessing the nutritional status of Hachiya persimmon was carried out during 2001-2002. Fruiting shoots were tagged in each tree in April 2001 for collecting leaf samples. The leaf samples were collected from three positions on the fruiting shoots viz., basal, median and terminally from May 15 to September 15 at fortnightly intervals. The samples were analysed for their N, P, K, Ca and Mg contents. N, P, K levels declined with advancement of age, Ca and Mg increased with the advancement of age. The N, P, K, Ca and Mg contents in leaves declined basipetally. The distinct period of stability for N, P, K, Ca and Mg contents occurred in mid shoot leaves during the first week of August to first week September, when the leaves were 4-5 months old.
