Abstract:
Processing tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) is both one of the most important and widespread horticultural crops in the world and one of the most demanding in water. The rapid expansion of cropped land and over-irrigation for high yield have concurred to the depletion of water resources. So irrigation water management must be carried out most efficiently to save water and maximize its productivity. Deficit irrigation strategies deliberately allow crops to sustain some degree of water deficit with a significant reduction in irrigation water. Strobilurin-fungicides, as azoxystrobin, in addition to controlling diseases, have additional effects on crop physiology, which may influence yield response. Our results showed that the application of azoxystrobin in drought conditions had a positive influence on water status, on water use efficiency (WUE) and yield response in tomato.
