초록

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to present a review of the qualitative evidence on elder populations in Korea. Methods:From three Korean databases, 105 articles published between 2001 and 2010 were reviewed. Articles were classified based on the year of publication, methodological approach, participants’ demographic characteristics, and key concepts. Results: The analysis reflected the current trends of qualitative studies: An increasing number of studies with female participants and frequent use of phenomenology and grounded-theory methodology. Five key concepts were identified from the findings of published articles: life and death experiences, social issues among elders, health and illness experiences, caregiver roles, and healthpromotion processes. Conclusion: Overall, elders constructed their experiences in relation to their families. Although elder are highly respected in Korean culture, difficulties due to ageism were identified.
