R. Stephen Berry [1] became 70 years old on April 9, 2001. More than 80 colleagues and friends convened to celebrate his anniversary at BERRYFEST, June 12-13, 2001, at the University of Chicago. Fifteen invited talks were presented in four sessions tailored to cover his broad research fields: Thermodynamics and Energy; Electron Correlation/Photoionization/Collisions; From Clusters to Proteins; Science and Public Policy.
Steve Berry has made many contributions to theoretical and experimental Physical Chemistry, which are honored with this special issue of the International Journal of Molecular Science “From Nanoclusters to Proteins.” Another special issue of the Journal of Physical Chemistry will commemorate his achievements in other fields. My aim, as a guest editor for the R. S. BERRY Special Issue, is to compile articles that constitute a fundamental contribution to the scientific literature. To achieve this aim I have invited distinguished researchers who have been colleagues of Steve and who have worked in the field of finite-size systems.
All contributions to this issue are new. They have been subject to the regular journal peer review process. The number of papers submitted to this journal is small due to the competition with the well-known journal of Physical Chemistry. We are proud to publish these presented papers of exceeding quality.
