ABSTRACT

Performance Lifestyle is a multifaceted support discipline within Olympic and Paralympic world class funded sport, providing bespoke support to athletes and sports around the challenging transition points in athletic careers as well as supporting the personal and professional development of athletes. Having experienced rapid growth over the last decade, the discipline and practitioners are now embedded in every Great Britain world-class-funded Olympic and Paralympic sport. This chapter sets out the evolution of the discipline, the aims, challenges and complexity of the work carried out, followed by pertinent positive psychology empirical evidence that underpin the areas of practice. Examples of its use and effectiveness in athletes are presented with in the chapter and consideration is given to the challenges faced by Performance Lifestyle practitioners and where future research may gravitate.
